How do you define Predictive Maintenance?

I’ve always had concerns over the term #PredictiveMaintenance. First, we don’t predict the future, second, it’s not #maintenance, it’s an inspection of condition only. Whether we use a technology such as #vibrationanalysis or just a pair of #calipers to measure a dimension, they both are determining at what point in time the condition of the item is ready to be repaired or replaced. When I hear “Predictive”, I just think technology used for an #OnConditionInspection.
